SO-23 History
What is the SO-23?
The SO-23 is the official Volkswagen Split Bus Camper between 1959 and 1961. Built by Westfalia Werke in Wiedenbruck, Germany.
 
SO-23 M-Codes
SO-23 Westfalia M-Codes

From October 1958, located behind the cab bench seat, is a small plate containing details of the date of manufacture, option codes, export destination, van type, paint colour and chassis number.

 
Optional Extras
Optional Deluxe Equipment

A Portable Chemical Toilet. Stored in the same compartment as the water tank.
A petrol cooker.
A cupboard on the left hand side (LHD) with a Cold Box.
 
Interior

Standard SO-23 Equipment

Plywood Lining. Made from imported Limba Ply included a 3/4 length headliner.
Window curtains matching the seat covers and paint. See below for the available colours.

SO-23s could be ordered in all standard VW bus colours and Westfalia special paint options (known as SK codes).
